The earliest record we could find of a Kosher restaurant in Winnipeg was Cafe Kosher (sometimes called Cohen's Kosher Restaurant) in 1912, located at 174 Logan Avenue and operated by a Mrs. Clara Cohen. The restaurant would move to 47 Martha Street, a building owned by the Cohens and also operating as a boarding house.

Within a few years, though, the restaurant at 47 Martha Street would come to be known as Levin's Kosher Restaurant. We were particularly taken with the ads that Levin's featured in the 1920s, inviting Jewish travelers from Western Canada to "MAKE OUR PLACE YOUR HOME," and asking "BUSINESS MEN, WHY WORRY? COME TO US FOR PASSOVER MEALS."
