For better and for worse, Toronto has changed a lot over the years.
Long before Susur Lee was serving up his 19-ingredient Singaporean-style slaw and Mark McEwan was hawking $40 burgers, Toronto's restaurants offered only British fare.
At the turn of the 20th century, a large Jewish community established itself in the St. John’s Ward area, near modern-day City Hall. In 1900, Samuel and Sarah Harris began to expand Toronto's culinary offerings with the introduction of one of the city's first delicatessens at 233 Queen Street West.
In celebration of these pioneers of pastrami and the contributions that successive waves of immigrants have made to our community, we created this Harris Delicatessen tee.
